Principal Anjali Iyer of DAV High School in Malad, Mumbai, has been leading the charge to <\/span>combat <\/span>declining <\/span>student <\/span>retention <\/span>rates, <\/span>which <\/span>have <\/span>plagued <\/span>the <\/span>institution <\/span>in <\/span>recent <\/span>years. <\/span>Despite challenges such as shifting parental aspirations and migration trends, Iyer remains <\/span>steadfast <\/span>in <\/span>her <\/span>commitment <\/span>to <\/span>maintaining <\/span>the <\/span>school’s <\/span>educational <\/span>standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Established <\/span>in <\/span>1953 <\/span>as <\/span>a <\/span>Marathi <\/span>medium <\/span>school, <\/span>DAV <\/span>High <\/span>School <\/span>has <\/span>witnessed <\/span>a <\/span>significant <\/span>decline in enrolment, with student numbers dwindling from an average of 1500 to close to <\/span>200 over the past decade. However, under Iyer’s leadership, efforts to enhance the school’s <\/span>infrastructure <\/span>and <\/span>create <\/span>an <\/span>engaging <\/span>learning <\/span>environment <\/span>have <\/span>yielded <\/span>promising <\/span>results.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, the school received vital support from Amitabh Shah founded Yuva Unstoppable <\/span>through their School Transformation Programme. The initiative aimed to address key issues <\/span>such as hygiene, sanitation, and overall improvement of the school’s physical appearance. <\/span>With <\/span>the <\/span>provision <\/span>of <\/span>hygienic <\/span>facilities, <\/span>including <\/span>separate <\/span>drinking <\/span>and <\/span>dishwashing <\/span>areas, <\/span>as <\/span>well as educational paintings adorning the walls, parents began to reconsider their decisions <\/span>about <\/span>transferring <\/span>their children to <\/span>other <\/span>schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our <\/span>collaboration <\/span>with <\/span>Amitabh <\/span>Shah and Yuva <\/span>Unstoppable has been <\/span>instrumental <\/span>in <\/span>transforming the school environment,” says Principal Anjali Iyer. “The improvements made <\/span>possible<\/span> <\/span>through<\/span> <\/span>the <\/span>programme <\/span>have <\/span>not <\/span>only <\/span>enhanced <\/span>the <\/span>physical <\/span>infrastructure <\/span>but <\/span>have <\/span>also <\/span>contributed <\/span>to a <\/span>more <\/span>vibrant and <\/span>conducive <\/span>learning <\/span>atmosphere.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to facility upgrades, Yuva Unstoppable facilitated the setup of a digital classroom <\/span>equipped<\/span> <\/span>with<\/span> <\/span>technology<\/span> <\/span>and<\/span> <\/span>instructional<\/span> <\/span>materials,<\/span> <\/span>marking<\/span> <\/span>a<\/span> <\/span>significant<\/span> <\/span>milestone<\/span> <\/span>for <\/span>DAV <\/span>High School. “For the first time, our school had access to digital resources and an instructor <\/span>dedicated to enhancing the learning experience,” remarks Iyer. The provision of 50 tablets <\/span>further enriched students’ educational journey, fostering tech-savviness and enthusiasm for <\/span>learning.<\/span><\/p>\n
