Ahmedabad: IOTA Diagnostic, a medtech startup backed by IIMA Ventures, has received an Indian Patent for its M-Strip™, an innovative cervical cancer screening test that uses menstrual blood as a biospecimen. This follows regulatory approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and successful clinical validation.

Through a strategic partnership facilitated by IIMA Ventures, IOTA Diagnostic and Sterling Accuris Diagnostics collaboratively developed the M-Strip™ device—a CDSCO-approved and clinically validated self-sampling kit for cervical cancer (HPV) and STI screening. Sterling Accuris then leveraged its expertise as a go-to-market (GTM) partner to drive early market adoption, playing a pivotal role in supporting IOTA’s clinical validation, scaling efforts, and bringing the M-Strip™ to market.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India, causing around 80,000 deaths annually. Early detection is crucial, but traditional screening methods are invasive, uncomfortable, and often inaccessible, leading to low participation rates and late-stage diagnoses.

M-Strip™ provides a simple, non-invasive alternative, allowing women to collect menstrual blood using a sanitary pad-based device. The sample is stored and sent to a lab for analysis, eliminating painful procedures, reducing reliance on skilled professionals, and encouraging more women to undergo screening. Clinical validation has shown that 96% of users preferred M-Strip™ over traditional methods, with testing so far detecting a 9% incidence rate of high-risk HPV.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends regular HPV screening from age 30 using high-performance tests like PCR for early detection and prevention. However, conventional diagnostics such as microscopy and cytology, are not designed to detect HPV, but its later effects. Traditional methods are painful and rely on skilled professionals. Inappropriate sampling compromise accuracy, and leading to diagnoses at advanced stages. Globally, around 660,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, with more than 350,000 deaths from this cancer.

Vaibhav Shitole, Founder, IOTA Diagnostic, said, “ We firmly believe that M-Strip™ will significantly increase cervical cancer screening participation by overcoming the major barriers of pain, discomfort, and privacy concerns that have historically hindered women from seeking regular tests. IOTA Diagnostic is committed to making this screening method affordable and accessible, particularly in underserved and remote areas. Two friends, both have immense talent, we are talking about well-known producer, director, writer, Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winning actor Manoj Kumar and producer, director, writer, actor and singer Dr. Eng. Rajainderr Jaina  , both of whom were very good friends. The best thing is that both of them also have a flat in Sagar Apartments in Delhi. When this building was built, top stars of that time bought flats in it. Recently, on the demise of Manoj Kumar,  Rajainderr Jaina   became very emotional while remembering Manoj ji, and he said that apart from being a good actor, Manoj Kumar was also a very good person, we had a very good friendship, and today my friend is no more with me. Recalling his past moments,  Rajainderr Jaina   got emotional and said that very few people know that Manoj Kumar was also a homeopathy doctor and he used to treat almost all diseases with homeopathy. 

He used to give free advice of homeopathy medicines to people. It was his and my wish that a charitable homeopathy hospital should be built near Delhi, for which he also acquired land near Narela. He also wanted to write a book on homeopathy and if he had been able to write it, it would have benefited a lot of patients. Being an engineer friend, I always encouraged him but as fate did not approve, he fell sick and this dream remained in his mind. Our friendship is like that line of Ghazal “Na umr ki seema ho na janm ka ho bandhan” from there onwards, our friendship was far above the hesitations of age. Last year when I celebrated my 70th birthday, he wanted to come to Delhi but could not come due to illness. Remembering him and paying tribute to both of them on the occasion of fifth death anniversary of his mother Smt. Manubhavati Devi,  Dr. Eng. Rajainderr Jaina  has thought of entertaining the senior citizens living in ‘Guru Vishram Old Age Home Sheows’ located in Okhla. In which he will entertain the people by organizing a gathering of old songs and patriotic songs. On this occasion, Dr. Girdhar Prasad Bhagat, Chairman of Guru Vishram Old Age Home Sheows said that free service is provided to helpless, homeless and sick elderly people in our Ashram and for such people,  Dr. Eng. Rajainderr Jaina   is doing a very good job. Every ashram lacks one thing that someone comes to ask about their well-being and entertains them. 

We have two ashrams in Delhi, out of which Abul Fazal Enclave New Delhi Ashram has more than 125 elderly people who are suffering from incurable diseases due to which their families have thrown them out of their homes. We want to take care of them, treat them, empower them and try to bring a change in their lives. Dr. Bhagat further said that here, the President of J.R. Entertainment, Dr. E. Rajendra Jaina is organizing a program full of songs for entertainment for the elderly here.  Dr. Eng. Rajainderr Jaina   thinks that music and entertainment work as medicine for the patient. In such a situation, J.R. Entertainment is organizing a music-filled program on Tuesday, 22nd April.
